About Us
One cleaning business in Des Moines in 2001.
We are a full-service janitorial company headquartered in Clive, Iowa, cleaning commercial and residential properties across Iowa, Illinois and Nebraska.
How it started
It grew the way that kind of business grows when it works: one building at a time, mostly on the recommendation of the last customer, into one of the largest commercial cleaning companies in the state.
It is still a family business in the literal sense rather than the marketing sense. That is not an anecdote for a website — it is why decisions get made by people whose name is on the company rather than by a regional office somewhere else.
It is also employee-owned, which is the less common half and the one we would rather be judged on. More on that below.
What we do
Recurring janitorial service is the core: offices, clinics, schools, dealerships, government buildings, industrial sites and multi-tenant properties, cleaned after hours on a written scope. Around that sit the specialist crews — floor care, carpet, windows and power washing, healthcare cleaning, arena and event turnover — plus apartment and house cleaning, and the paper, soap and liners that keep a building stocked.
Family-owned and employee-owned
Both halves of that are literal. The Sheltons own and run the company, and Nationwide Office Care operates an employee stock ownership plan — an ESOP — so the people doing the work have a stake in the business doing well.
It is worth saying why that is on this page rather than buried in a benefits handbook.
How we are set up
Every cleaner is our employee — background-checked, trained in our own program, uniformed, badged, and covered by our insurance. We are not a franchise, so there is no local operator buying a territory and setting their own standard. One company, one training program, one set of supervisors.
The operation is organized by region, each with its own supervisors and account managers, so the person responsible for your building is somebody who can be standing in it within the hour rather than somebody in another state.
What we are trying to be good at
Keeping people.
It is also the hardest thing to do in this trade, and the reason is not complicated. Cleaning is night work, often part-time, and usually treated as disposable. We treat it as a job somebody should be able to stay in.
Where we work
Iowa, Illinois and Nebraska, from the Des Moines metro out through Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, the Quad Cities, Waterloo and Cedar Falls, Ames, Sioux City and the smaller towns in between. The full list, and the cities with their own page, is on where we are.
Working here
We hire cleaners, window technicians, floor technicians, supervisors and event crew across all three states, year round. What that actually involves, and what is open now, is on careers.
Come and look at our work
Or better, let us come and look at your building. No price until we have walked it.
